The Grafenberg Spot (G spot)
Ernst Grafenberg was a German doctor, who was born in the year eighteen eighty-one (1881), and passed away in New York city in 1957. He earned his doctorate in 1905, and is best known for his detailed studies of female genitalia.
Grafenberg was forced to resign from his role as the head of gynecology in the Berlin municipal hospital when the Nazi began to take hold. This was do to the fact that he was of Jewish heritage. Many of his friends and colleagues begged him to leave Nazi Germany, but Grafenberg felt that he would be safe because of his expertise, assuming that he would be allowed to practice medicine on the wives of Nazi officers.
He was actually arrested a few years later over the smallest of things, until a good friend of his helped him to be released from prison. It was at this time 1940, which is the same year that he moved to New York to open his own practice.
Grafenberg is most famous now for what we refer to as the "g spot" or Grafenberg spot. His studies of female genitalia, and particularly the effects that the urethra has during female orgasms was ground breaking. In 1950 he published a work entitled The role of urethra in female orgasm, where he went into great detail about the occurrence of female ejaculation.
If you are familiar with Dr. Kinsey, he too was a big fan of Mr. G, and it was John Perry, and Beverly Whipple that officially dubbed the famous place the Grafenber spot, or the "G" spot. Despite his collective and in-depth research, the concept of what he discovered is still much considered taboo by the medical community.
He also invented the very famous Grafenberg contraceptive ring, which was in use all the way up until 1960, some ten years after his passing. In fact, it has proven to be so efficient and safe, that doctors are reintroducing it again.
Doctor Grafenberg was a real champion for women's health and safety, and fought the old standards of dangerous practices used in contraceptives, and on top of it all, much of what he discovered has aided couples in improving their sex lives.
